The Junction Junior Cast

Mich Nyang'aya plays Leleti

LELETI is 11 years old and she’s a tomboy, she wears her hair in braids and never puts on a skirt. Leleti’s bold, independent, slightly wild and fiercely loyal to her friends…once she is sure she can trust them.

Leleti likes going off on her own, climbing trees and building dens - she’s quiet and careful with her words. Life at home has been hard for Leleti but she’ll never say so and won’t talk about it either.

Sometimes she just sits and gazes into the distance not listening to people - this frustrates the others, but Nita knows that it’s because she has a lot of pain inside that sometimes takes over. She’s very happy in her own company and sometimes finds having to ask the others what to do a bit annoying. But in time she would do anything for her friends. She’s brave and when she grows up she ants to be a lawyer.

Cindy Kahuha plays Nita

NITA is 10 years old but she’s already the “mother” of the Junction Juniors. She’s careful and sensible. She is into clothes and fashion and thinks the boys should do the dirty jobs. However she has brilliant ideas and is the glue in the JJs…she’s most likely to see other people’s opinions and stick up for the weakest link.

Nita finds Leleti a bit too wild and tough and is convinced that all she needs is a bit of loving and care and she’ll be fine. Nita is also great at making people feel good and building the JJ spirit. If it looks as if a problem has stopped them, it’ll be Nita who forces everyone to keep going and find a solution. Not everyone likes Nita’s bossiness but everyone loves Nita. She’s compassionate and wants to be a doctor.

Ramya Mohan plays Amishi

AMISHI is10 years old. She’s a ball of fire. She’s full of energy, never tires and is always willing to go the extra mile to help people - if the gang is getting tired, you can always rely on Amishi to push them just a bit further to finish a job.

Amishi is really sporty and loves running, you never see her walking. She wants to be just like Katherine Ndereba when she’s older. Amishi is asthmatic but this doesn’t stop her from doing what she wants to - especially when her friends try to get her to slow down. When her asthma strikes the gang are quick to respond but Amishi never wants sympathy or pity. Amishi is a real supporter of gender equality - it drives her mad if someone thinks she can’t do something as well as a boy. This might be because her father has little time for her. She’s pretty, compassionate and exhausting to be around!

Andrew Warui plays James

JAMES is 9 and he’s a bit of a trouble-maker with a great sense of humour. He is the clown of the team but no fool. Yes, he’s most likely to slip in the cow muck or get locked in the shed at the worst possible time but he’s also got a brilliant head for numbers and can add or subtract anything in record timing.

James finds Brain really annoying and the two of them have an unhappy friendship - if anyone’s fighting, it’ll be these two. Nita is his big sister and he, more than the rest finds her bossiness annoying but will never let anyone say a word against her. He’s a scout and very proud of the skills that he learns this way. He wants to be a soldier when he grows up.

Mungai Mbaya plays Brian

BRIAN Baraka is 8. He’s the grandson of Mr Baraka, and his who owns farms and shops in Makutano. Brian always has biscuits on him which he doesn’t like to share with the others - something which not only drives James mad but also gets him into trouble.

Brian is a bit of a know-it-all and is always keen to please (sometime the wrong people!) He’s quite old-fashioned and thinks things should be done in a certain way…which can annoy the other JJs. But he’s deeply committed to the Junction Juniors team and wants to be at the heart of the group …even if he sometimes goes about it the wrong way. Brian wants to be a politician when he grows up.

Shadrack Olumasai plays Bakari

BAKARI is 11 and he is disabled. He never lets anyone talk down to him. He’s forever asking questions which annoys everyone but he never forgets an answer. Above all he’s loyal.

Bakari always makes mistakes with pronunciation and can never remember the password to get into the team HQ’s. As the youngest and most innocent Bakari is always being sent on spying missions. Luckily for him most people find him so sweet that they never suspect him but his trusting nature also gets him into sticky situations…. Bakari is inquisitive. He wants to be an electrician when he grows up.

Shavian Melit plays Babu

BABU is 13 and he’s the outsider in Junction Juniors. He starts off as being the bully the gang are constantly fighting against - but in time he becomes part of the group.

Babu has had a tough life and that’s made him grow up fast and means he has no respect for authority & rules. He’s angry because his home life is pretty terrible - he’s now living in a camp for Internally Displaced Persons father & his Grandmother - his mum was killed in the political clashes. His Grandmother is so worried about him & his rebellious ways that she has sent him to the local school - which he now hates & also hates everyone in it. While most of the time Babu is cool and calm, occasionally the anger surfaces and he explodes. He doesn’t know what he wants to be when he grows up - he always changes his mind.
